Follow these steps to install and configure Variant Image Manager for your Shopify store.
Go to the Variant Image Manager listing in the Shopify App Store.
Click the green "Add app" button to begin installation.
Review the permissions and click "Install app" to authorize Variant Image Manager to access your store.
After installation, you'll be redirected to the Variant Image Manager dashboard in your Shopify admin.
Click the "Sync All from Shopify" button to import all your products with variants.
Note: Only products with 2 or more variants will be shown. Single-variant products don't need variant-specific images.
The sync process will import all your products and their variants. This may take a few moments depending on your catalog size.
Click "Manage Variants" on any product to configure its variant images.
You'll see all product images at the top and variant tabs below. Simply drag images from the image pool to the variant you want them to appear for.
Pro Tip: You can drag images within a variant to reorder them. The first image will be the main image for that variant.
Add custom descriptions for each variant to highlight specific features or details.
Click "Save All Changes" to save your variant configuration.
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize in your Shopify admin.
In the theme editor, navigate to any product page template.
Click "Add block" or "Add app block" and select "Variant Image Gallery" from the Apps section.
Important: The app block should be added to your product page template. It works invisibly in the background to update your existing product images.
Click "Save" in the theme editor. Your variant gallery is now active!
Open a product page on your storefront that has variant images configured.
Click on different variant options (colors, sizes, etc.) and watch the images update automatically!
